Since I was a child I have always had an interest in construction. I would wear a toy tool belt around the house “fixing” various pieces of furniture. This interest stayed with me through high school, where I worked for my dad in his residential remodel business, and into college, where I received an Architectural Engineering Degree from The University of Kansas. After graduating from college, I got married and accepted a job working as an estimator at a large general contracting firm in Kansas City.

My wife and I decided it was time to find a house of our own. With my love of construction and building things with my hands, I persuaded my wife to buy a fixer upper. Boy did she deliver with a 160 year old stone house that was in need of some love and got to work. We quickly realized that our little fixer upper had turned into a whole house remodel. The interior of the house needed to be completely gutted, and every aspect of the house except the stone walls and the roof framing was replaced (See the LJWorld article about our remodel). It was hard, stressful work, but I was loving every minute of it. It was during our house remodel that I realized that sitting behind a desk staring at a computer screen all day wasn’t for me. I enjoyed bring the house back to life so much that I decided to make a career out of it, and StoneHouse Construction LLC was born.
